Using video within Instagram is such a valuable resource.  Studies show that more than 70% of audiences are influenced by video and especially during these pandemic times when livestream usage has increased by 70% as well!

WHAT IS IGTV AND HOW DOES IT COMPARE TO YOUTUBE

IGTV is Instagram’s video solution that mimics a lot of the features of YouTube, but was created for vertical video giving the user a full vertical screen on their phone that is comfortable to view.  No more than five minutes is recommended for IGTV videos because people want to scroll for instant gratification.

YouTube videos tend to be more curated using professional equipment and high quality editing.  IGTV videos can be created using your phone and edited using a video editor app such as InShot.  These videos are not meant to be perfect and have a more approachable feel.

HOW TO USE IGTV FOR BUSINESS

  • Use clickable links in the description.  Instagram is a great tool for getting people over to your website, newsletter, blog, or podcast.  You can put as many URLs as you want so be sure to include one for a call to action.

  • IGTV can be used on every part of Instagram’s platform.  Start with a Livestream, then set the video to go to IGTV, then share the video as a preview on your feed (this will boost engagement), and then share as a preview to your stories.  Even if you have less than 10k followers, you can have a link to Swipe Up to your videos.

  • Series.  Just like a Netflix series, you can create a bingeable series of videos that will keep people anticipating the next video.  It’s a great way to build your relationship with your audience.

TYPES OF VIDEOS TO CREATE

  • Business Card video.  This video introduces your business, who you are, what you offer, what your expertise is, and how you serve your customer.  You can do followup videos with fun facts or introductions of your team.

  • FAQ or Q&A video.  You can use Stories to get questions or repurpose an FAQ website page.

  • Value Focused videos.  These can be a tutorial, training, or inspirational video.  Create content that you tend to get questions about so that you can easily share these videos to answer questions through DM.

TOOLS FOR CREATING VIDEOS ON A SMARTPHONE

Keep your videos for IGTV simple and easy.  It’s meant to look and feel casual.

  • Always wipe off your back lens to eliminate dirt and smudges.

  • Use a tripod to make creating videos much easier.

  • Pay attention to lighting.  Use a window or a ring light for proper illumination.

  • Use an editor app.  InShot is a robust app for Android or iOS and it’s free!  It has options such as transitions, text, filters, and music.
