when did you know it was time to commit and fully pivot from weddings into brand photography?(2:22)
At the time I was a wedding photographer and was taking a lot of branding photos of myself just to really connect with my own ideal clients. Because when you're a wedding photographer, and you're in the same market as other people, everyone sharing client work, rides and bouquets and things like that, I was always thinking about building my business.
I was always teaching other wedding professionals how to build their a business like I was mine, but everyone was was asking for “behind the scenes photos” lifestyle photos buy they were calling it “head shots” and that’s when it hit!
What are some Best practices when Building a portfolio and niching down while also pitching to brands? (08:52)
Be in alignment and share what you shoot!
If you’re interested in a particular niche or market, create images inspired by that market.
Consider trade for services in which you would trade your photography for another service in exchange. This is a personal decision but ultimately is what works best for you.
Do you find it valuable to add product photography as part of your services? (14:52)
For product based businesses, you can add value to the brand experience by incorporating photos of their products in different settings.
