Episode 36: Navigating Mental health while building your brand with Kimberly king

Kimberly King is an intuitive brand coach and designer for spiritual entrepreneurs.  She works with coaches, creators, and healers to help them build an impactful and profitable brand.

May is Mental Health Awareness month in the United States and it’s very important to bring this topic into the light.  It’s tough enough being an entrepreneur, and adding the stress of mental health challenges can make for a rocky road.

How can we be mindful of mental health while running a business?

Ask for help and support when you need it.  Each person’s experience is very unique and there’s not a standard solution that will work across the board.  It’s important to recognize when something feels “off” and reach out to get the support and help you need.

Take time off.  Our society glorifies the “Go Go Go” approach, but our bodies need to rest, relax, and rejuvenate.  Listen to your body and honor what it is asking for.  Unplug, disconnect, do something nourishing for your soul, and you’ll come back refreshed and more productive after taking time off.  Take at least one whole day each week away from your business and from social media.  And take small moments of time every day for yourself - take a walk, play with your pets or kids, enjoy a yoga class, meditate, take a hot bath - whatever will give you some enjoyable “me” time.

Capitalize on your most productive time of day.  If you’re a morning person, get up early and take care of your most important or challenging tasks when you are fresh, energized, and feel your best.  If you’re an evening person, dig into these when others have settled in and you can have the time and space to work in peace.

Ideas for Nourishing Yourself

Meditation - Sitting and listening to the sounds around you, following a guided meditation on an app, or using visualization are all ways to calm and reset our nervous systems.

Movement - you don’t have to spend an hour lifting weights and running furiously on a treadmill!  Taking a ten minute walk around the block will reset your body and mind.

Eating healthfully - listen to your body and consume what makes you feel your best and supports your well-being.

Spending time in nature - go to the local park or greenway and walk, ride a bike, or just close your eyes and feel the sunshine and breeze and listen to the birds chattering.  Enjoying nature is an easy and free way to decompress.

Simplifying your life can melt away stress - minimize your belongings, your commitments, your meal prep, your responsibilities.  Declutter your home and work space and you will be able to feel the difference in your body and mind.  Even within your business, minimize the number of offers, lead magnets, sales pages, and processes.  Streamlining and simplifying your business will reduce your stress and pressure and create more space for you.  Less is more!

Create a support system.  Entrepreneurship can feel lonely at times so it’s important to reach out to those who relate to your path, support you, and believe in you.  This could be a local or online community, a family member, friend, therapist, or coach.

Navigating Mental Health and Building a Personal Brand

You are the person behind your brand and how you take care of your mental health will impact how you show up in your business and the energy people feel from you.  In order to make your brand sustainable, it requires that you take care of your mental health.

We all have off days when we feel stressed or overwhelmed, but how we handle them determines how quickly we can overcome them.  Listen to your body, take time away from work, and ask for help when you need it.  When you are supporting your mental health, you will be more creative, have more ideas, and be able to show up more fully for yourself and your clients.
