E16: How To Find Harmony: Interview with Nancy Renaud
“Beauty...is really AUTHENTICITY, whatever that is actually YOU. Whenever you are yourself is when you SHOW UP, is when you actually, like the peacock, show your feathers, your beauty. When you show up, that’s all that’s needed for you to be BEAUTIFUL.”
- Nancy Renaud
Today’s episode is incredibly inspirational as I interview Nancy Renaud who survived multiple traumas in childhood and her 20s and has rebuilt her self esteem, love, respect, and image through various therapies and self help. Her hardships galvanized her drive to bring more light into the lives of others. While Nancy was completing her post graduate studies at Duke University, she took up sociology, anthropology, and psychoanalysis which along with her extensive personal research led her to develop the fun program Inner Beauty Styling!
What is Inner Beauty Styling?
Inner Beauty Styling is designed to help you find your inner spark, light, and potential. Clients usually either have a degree of financial, career, and family stability but desire more, or are at a turning point in life and need help figuring out the next step. Whatever the client feels is missing, Nancy helps unveil it and bring it into the light. Inner beauty styling is about the essence of Life where one only truly feels fulfilled when they are their authentic self.
Like in clothing or makeup, inner beauty harmony is found in proportions, but it is even more subtle from the perspective of inner beauty. Harmony is a matter of reconnecting or creating connection with the inner self; that inner voice that may be speaking to us through body aches or disease. Once we start listening to the subtle language from our bodies, there is no need for the body to scream anymore. Layer by layer, inner beauty work teaches you to identify and transform those patterns.
Everyone is in different stages of their own individual path and this work is customized to fit the person where they are at that moment. Inner beauty radiates when you learn how to be your authentic self and realize that just showing up as YOU is all that is needed. The layers peeled back during inner beauty styling are where we are hiding behind education, conditioning, clothing, etc.
How To Create Harmony In Your Life Using Inner Beauty
Whatever you bring your attention to, changes and transforms. It is important to carefully choose your thoughts because you have the power to impact what you think about. Your moods, thoughts, intentions will all impact how changes occur and the direction they take. Harmony does not reside in exact symmetry. Harmony is a matter of proportions, alignment, and balance.
TIPS FOR CREATING INNER HARMONY:
Make a list of 30 things that bring you joy (including all senses) - listening to music, talking with a friend, decorating your home, meditation, walking in nature, feeling the embrace of a loved one, the beauty of your garden, the smell of fresh cut grass, or your favorite meal or treat. When you are not feeling your best, refer to your list and do something that makes you happy. Joy and creativity help bring your potential to the surface.
Observe your thoughts with the intention of repatterining them. If there is something you dislike or would like to change about yourself, develop a positive way of saying it such as “I would like more lightness and harmony in my tummy” rather than “I want to lose weight”. Then thank that part of you that is not your favorite, because there is a reason for everything. Perhaps it’s there to support or protect you. Thank it! It was useful for a time, but now you can let it go, release it, because it’s in the past; clear it from the present moment.
How are you projecting yourself and setting yourself up for success?
Every morning, create a beauty routine that makes you feel good, activates your energy, and helps you radiate. To be in more harmony, use cosmetics that are respectful of your skin and the environment. Note: Nancy has created her own line of natural makeup!
Always wear something that makes you happy! It could be visible or something only you know about, a whole outfit or as simple as a ring.
Pay attention to your posture. Posture affects your mood, energy flow, digestion, breathing, and so much more. Pilates is a great way to stretch your spine and improve breathing. You can even become taller with better posture!
Nancy also shares a couple good experiments in her interview to accompany these tips. And she has a good time with my lightning round of fun questions at the end!
“When you use nature, that’s when you are really one with all that’s around you”
